The Queen reportedly warned Harry about Meghan Markle’s behavior before the wedding
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married back in the spring of 2018 but the events leading up to the wedding were the talk of the town. Rumors swirled around the engaged couple and most of them had to do with the matriarch of the illustrious family: the Queen. On paper, their whirlwind romance sounded like something out of a fairytale but anyone who has read a fairytale knows that not everything is all unicorns and fairies. In this real-life royal romance, the protocol is everything and Queen Elizabeth II has always been a firm believer in tradition which her grandson Harry was shirking.
Planning a wedding is supposed to be the bride and groom’s time to show the world what makes their love special and a royal wedding is to show the world this rather than just friends and family. It appeared that prior to the happy day, the Queen had some pretty big reservations about Meghan which she did not keep to herself. But what was it about Meghan that had the Queen so on edge?
Happy Family
The Queen had known about Meghan for quite some time and had been briefed on her acting past, fashion blog, and activism. She knew why Harry had fallen so madly in love with his soon-to-be wife, and now the future mother of another one of her grandchildren.

But there was something that troubled her about Meghan that almost threatened to derail the entire wedding. Things appear to have been smoothed over now but before the happy day, she gave Harry a warning.
The Wedding Gown
Planning for the May wedding was in full swing as the Queen watched from the sidelines, interjecting with some of her own ideas and an eye to protocol. Meghan’s dress was a much talked about the component as it had to be traditional while encompassing elements of the British Commonwealth. Designed by the creative director for Givenchy it was a simple dress with the veil being the showstopper that incorporated the national flower of each of the Commonwealth members as well as one from California, her home, and one from her current home at Kensington Palace.

Protocol-wise there was nothing that did not fit for the big event, it featured something old, something new, something borrowed, and maybe something blue.
The Tiara
It was the tiara that caused a bit of a stir and not because it was encrusted with diamonds and was on loan from Queen Elizabeth II but because of the royal protocol around donning a tiara itself. The rules dictate that Royal women are only allowed to wear tiaras once they are married.

This means that until a Royal woman is married she is not supposed to wear one which accounts for why Princess Eugenie and Beatrice were not seen in them growing up. That is why the wedding day for a royal is exciting for both them and the world as they are finally able to wear one and each one is different.
The Family Collection
In times past royal families or those of noble birth would have their own collections of jewels to choose from in the form of tiaras, brooches, necklaces, and earrings. For the wedding day, the bride would be allowed to select the headpiece of her choosing from her family to wear and then once married was expected to only wear the jewels from the family she was marrying into.

Meghan was not part of a royal family and thus did not have a collection of tiaras to choose from which is why the Queen offered her one of her own. The caveat was that the Queen had veto power which meant if she did not want Meghan to wear a certain one she could not.
