Woman Finds Her Lost Wedding Ring After A Decade

Weekly Chores

We have all lost something before, sometimes these are things of great value in monetary terms, sometimes of great value in terms of sentimentality, sometimes both, such as a watch or a book with a personal inscription. When you lose something that has special importance to you, it is something you mourn whereas if you lose a pair of sneakers it is just a nuisance. Sometimes what once was lost, can be found. Which was the case for one special woman from New Jersey. Paula, who hails from Somers Point, had quite the tale to tell when it came to something very important that was lost to her. She lost the anniversary ring given to her by her husband which commemorated 20 years of being married. This is no small feat for any married couple, and it makes sense that her husband wanted to honor all of the happy years they had spent together, with a beautiful diamond eternity band. Unfortunately for Paula, she would not get to wear the ring for very long before a routine chore caused her to misplace it.

A tidy home was something Paula prided herself on. She felt that her home was a reflection of her happy life with her friends and family. She had a stable marriage and financial security, which is what any couple who has been married for well over 20 years wants.

It was during one of her routine bathroom chore sessions that tragedy struck. As she so often did, she was scrubbing the bathroom until it shone, all while wearing her anniversary ring.

Disappearing Act

Cleaning the bathroom is not too bad, but nobody particularly enjoys wiping down the toilet. Paula had not been wearing any gloves, and this would prove to be her crucial mistake. As she flushed the toilet and watched the blue toilet cleaner and soap suds drain away she realized that her hand felt suddenly lighter. This gave her cause for concern.

As she stared at her hand and wondered why it suddenly felt different, it dawned on her. Her anniversary ring was missing. While she was scrubbing the toilet, it had fallen into the water and drained away with the soapy water when she flushed it.

The Seasons

Our hands tend to swell in summer due to the heat and then they settle in the winter. Because of this, rings will often fit differently during the hot and cold seasons. This was why ultimately Paula’s ring fell off. She remembered that it had been rather loose on her finger due to the cold season which explains how it was able to swiftly slip off her ring finger and into the toilet without her noticing.

The soapy water would have further hidden it from view even if she had noticed that it was gone immediately.

A Guilty Conscience

Paula felt beyond terrible about the entire ordeal and silently berated herself for not being more careful. She knew how much the ring meant to her, but also to her husband who had set aside part of his paycheck every month for years to purchase the ring in time for their 20th anniversary. She decided to try and reclaim the ring before she needed to confess to its disappearance.

She turned the house upside down looking for it and even dismantled the toilet, all in the hopes that it would be sitting in one of the pipes, or amongst the cushions on the couch.
