The Most Outrageous And Amusing Reactions To Netflix’s "Tiger King"

Funny Reactions To Netflix’s “Tiger King”

Netflix is known for putting out high-quality television series, and movies, but their most recent foray into the world of documentaries has made one of their new shows infamous. With everyone self-isolating at home, most people have managed to watch the documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness. It follows the lives of three exotic animal owners – Carole Baskin, Bhagavan ‘Doc’ Antle, and the tiger king himself, Joe Exotic. The true star of the show is Joe Exotic, a polygamous, country singing former zoo owner in the state of Oklahoma. Anybody who has watched this show has had a lot of feelings and reactions around its unbelievable story. Keep scrolling to see some of the most comical fan comments about these three characters and their big cat-obsessed lives.

The Crocodile Hunter

Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin was one of the most renowned conservationists in the world before his untimely passing in 2006.

He had his own show called ‘The Crocodile Hunter Diaries,’ which showcased him in various remote locations around the world hunting for rare animals. It was an excellent way for his audience to learn about exotic animals in their natural habitat. Joe Exotic fancied himself as something similar to Irwin, but he was a pretty poor version in comparison.

How To Become A Tiger King

It might seem like it would be pretty easy to become a tiger king, but as Joe Exotic, Carol Baskin, and Doc Antle showed, it takes years. While the three share their so-called ‘love’ of exotic animals, specifically big cats, there are a few other things that tie them together.

One of these is their need to have leopard print fabric in the form of clothing, hats, furniture, and anything else that could have an animal print on it somewhere in their vicinity. This starter pack is what any true tiger king wannabe needs if they want to live the Joe Exotic dream.

Courtroom Fashion Faux Pas

If you have seen the docuseries, then you know that Joe Exotic spends a lot of time in and out of various courtrooms. His flair for the dramatic does not stop at the G.W. Zoo, though; he brings it straight into any courtroom hearing he has.

We’re not sure why his lawyer didn’t tell him that courtrooms tend to require a suit and tie, and not an Ironman t-shirt. He showed up for this deposition, looking like he had just stepped out of his trailer. What we want to know is why he dresses up more for the zoo in bedazzled button-ups and cowboy hats, than he does for court?

The Documentary Nobody Knew They Needed

Sometimes a show or documentary comes out, and it becomes an instant classic. Tiger King was that as soon as it began streaming. As each character was introduced, viewers found themselves glued to the screen in a mixture of awe and horror.

Joe Exotic was not alone at G.W. Zoo and had two partners who he referred to as his husbands. John Finlay and Travis Maldonado all lived with Joe and even had a wedding ceremony where the three exchanged vows. They all worked at the zoo together, although both of Joe’s husbands are rumored to have suffered from substance abuse issues.

The Roaring 20s

2020 was supposed to be the start of the roaring 20s. It seemed like a lot of good things were on the horizon. Sadly everything changed when recent events forced people out of public spaces and into self-isolation.

This means there has been a lot of time to watch shows like Tiger King, which showcases three humans whose lives pretty much sum up what 2020 has been like so far. We’re optimistic, though, and we know that there are good things still to come. If you need a lift me up, just listen to one of Joe Exotic’s greatest hits from one of his many self-produced country albums.

All In This Together

There has been a lot of talk around this show, especially because most of us are at home and can only really exist in the virtual world right now.

Joe Exotic and his band of misfit zookeepers, along with his feud with Carole Baskin, have given everyone some major talking points. When we think back on this time, Tiger King will be the documentary series that everyone associates with the pandemic, and staying at home.

The Exotic Culture

Culture is one of those things that can be anything that someone considers important to what makes them unique. For Joe Exotic, that was his zoo, his mullet, his two husbands, and his country music.

We don’t think that the Joe Exotic culture is for everyone, but if you get yourself a mullet, and adopt some of Joe’s extraordinary outfits, you might just be able to embrace the exotic culture.

The Loving Husband

Carole Baskin is supposed to be the ‘good guy’ in this series. She has a big cat sanctuary in Tampa, Florida, but she is not without her own controversies.

While Carole and her husband Howard Baskin are very happy together in their leopard print covered home, Carole’s second husband, Don Lewis, has been missing since the summer of 1997. No trace of him was ever found, and there is a rumor that Carole herself may have been the culprit.

Florida Fashions

The clothes worn by all of the people at the center of this show are anything but fashion-forward. Carole Baskin is often seen floating around her sanctuary with a flower crown, and some kind of animal print.

Joe Exotic is always wearing some kind of adorned hat, and very tight jeans. Doc Antle is the only one who appears normal, but that is immediately dispelled when you find out that he makes all of his female companions wear animal print leotards.

The Fictional Love Child

A lot of comparisons have been made between Joe Exotic and two popular characters from television and cinema. Joe Dirt, which stars David Spade as the character of the same name, is a mullet sporting redneck.

Kenny Powers is a mullet sporting baseball player in the HBO show Eastbound and Down. If you look at those two men and imagine what their child would look like, Joe Exotic is exactly what comes to mind.

The Film Adaptation

One man on the show, James Garretson, does not show up until somewhere in the middle. Joe had been busy running G.W. Zoo and plotting against Carole Baskin. James appears when Joe needs some new investors to keep his zoo running, and James appears to be a good fit for that role.

Other than the fact that James has managed some exotic dancing clubs, what it is he does for employment is largely left up to the viewer’s imagination. If he was ever going to be played by a star, Cathy Bates might do an excellent job of portraying him.

A Joe Of All Trades

There is a lot about this docuseries that has made viewers uncomfortable, and one of those moments was when a tiger attacked a zookeeper at G.W. Zoo.

Joe Exotic called for an ambulance, and luckily he had the perfect jacket to put on for the occasion. Why he owned an emergency medical services bomber jacket is truly a mystery, but he did get a chance to put it to use.

A Necessary Distraction

As more and more people stayed home to self-isolate, a lot of people began to get a bit anxious and bored. Luckily, Netflix had something great to keep audiences entertained and occupied.

Now, we are all getting used to social distancing and working from home, but before this, Tiger King was the perfect distraction. When it comes to keeping your mind off of the state of the world, the feud between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic is the perfect escape.

Showing Off The Goods

Each of Joe Exotic’s husbands was truly unique. His second husband, John Finlay, featured pretty heavily throughout the series, as did the third husband, Travis Maldonado. However, there was one major difference between Travis and John.

Not once was John interviewed while wearing a shirt. We don’t know if this was his choice or the production team, but it definitely makes for some pretty interesting interviews. It is very hard not to stare at all of the tattoos on John’s torso, especially the one that says, “Privately Owned By Joe Exotic.”
