Now that the first episode of the final season of Game of Thrones (GoT) has aired and the second one will be airing soon, let’s take a look at some of the things you may have missed in your excitement to see the Starks reunite and for Jon Snow to find out about his very special lineage. SPOILER ALERT!
The Opening Credits
Most of us simply skip through the opening credits, but the ones for GoT’s always provide some foreshadowing of what is to come in the season, but also of events from the past. These ones are no different. Did you notice that there have been spirals associated with the White Walkers throughout all the seasons? Well, the map shows that the Walkers have ripped through the wall and down through the North to Last Hearth where a certain little lordling can be found in the middle of a spiral shrieking. Essentially all the symbolism found in this episode showed up in the credits.
The Spiral Pattern
This spiral is something that has shown up repeatedly throughout the seasons which means that it obviously has to do with SOMETHING. Now, think about the sigils that have been shown for the various houses, is there one that resembles it? Yes, the Targaryen’s three-headed dragon one bears a pretty striking resemblance to it. Could this mean that the White Walkers are associated with them, or are somehow in cahoots with them? Time will tell, a popular theory is that Bran actually controls them but we are not so sure about that.
Bran and Jamie
When Bran finally sees Jamie we learn that he is the “old friend” that he has been waiting for. If you remember how Bran became paralyzed then you will realize the significance of this (Jamie pushed him out a window for witnessing a private moment with his sister). This scene implies that Bran has foreseen some plot twist that will involve Jamie, but will it be regarding the Starks or the Targaryens?
A Special Weapon
Arya and Gendry also get to have a reunion and with her all grown-up it is definitely of a flirtatious nature. But the big thing here is the weapon she asks him to produce which looks like a spear with a detachable dragonglass point. It seems like she will definitely be defeating some White Walker foes, but as a trained assassin will she be the one to go for the Night King?
We have so many questions, and we cannot wait to have them all answered by the end of the season. Who will reign over all of Westeros?
