Jason Momoa and action heroes are basically the same things. The self-described “savage” has many different sides that the world doesn’t know. He is part artist, part big kid, and overall softie. But what else do we not know about the rugged hunk? Momoa has played roles in movies such as Justice League where he plays his most famous character Aquaman, Conan the Barbarian, Braven, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Road to Paloma, The Bad Batch, Sugar Moutain, The Lego Movie 2: The second part, Debug and more. Although he did many things in-between, his time of the Game of Thrones placed him on top of the acting pile. With other shows including Stargate Atlantis, The Red Road, Baywatch, and Frontier, he is certainly no stranger to acting and has a wealth of experience under his belt.

He was thrown into the public eye from the second he became Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones, but now the world knows him as Aquaman. From the beard, the long locks, body art, and ripped physique, he has female fans swooning over him wherever he goes.

The first Aquaman trailer created a frenzy and the movie has gone on to smash box office records. The fantasy/sci-fi movie see Momoa playing the main character of Aquaman, whose aim is to save the oceanic people from Atlantis’ King Orm before he succeeds to conquer the world.

His father was a painter of Hawaiian descent and his mother was mostly German and was a photographer. Following high school, he moved back to Hawaii and scooped his first successful acting role.

Love At First Sight

Momoa and his wife Lisa Bonet are couple goals personified, but how they met is an interesting tale. Momoa has had a crush on her ever since he saw her on TV. Even though he was only at the ripe old age of eight. Apparently, he pointed to the TV and turned to his mother and said, ‘I want that one’.

Momoa has a lot of tattoos. The most notable is a half-sleeve on his left forearm, which is a tribute to his family god, or “aumakua,” from Hawaiian mythology. The sleeve tattoo features nine rows of triangles that represent shark teeth, paying homage to his family god which is a shark.

Other tattoos include his children’s initials on his chest and the words “to always be drunk” in French on his forearm. Speaking about one of his tattoos he said, “It’s supposed to take the darkness out of your heart and bring in the light, but we’re still working on that.”

While Momoa has two children with Bonet, he is also the stepdad to actress Zoe Kravitz, Bonet and Lenny
Kravitz’s daughter. Zoe has spoken of the love she has for her family, and how their situation may not be conventional, but that they all love each other.

Momoa could have been a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) if two other opportunities had worked out. Momoa auditioned for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, where he auditioned with Chris Pratt. Momoa still hasn’t revealed what role he auditioned for, but we think it was probably Drax the Destroyer.

Momoa is proudly Hawaiian and is in actual fact, the first Hawaiian superhero on the big screen. As most Hawaiian mythological gods are water gods, he has said it is a dream to be able to bring Aquaman to life. We can’t really imagine it being anyone else.

In the traditional Hawaiian religion, it is Kanaloa who is the God of the Ocean. He protects long distance voyaging, the ocean as well as healing. The Aquaman character is the equivalent character to God Kanaloa.

The beaches of Baywatch were Momoa’s home from 1999-2001. His role of lifeguard Jason Ioane spurred Momoa’s desire to pursue acting full time but he was desperate to rid himself of his Baywatch stigma, so went to study acting full time.

The role of Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones fixed that stigma for sure. In Baywatch scenes, Momoa looks dramatically different to what we know of him today. At the ripe age of 20, he scooped the role with his spikes hair, tattoo-free body although he has always he the same smoldering expression.

Between being a lifeguard and playing a lifeguard on Baywatch, Momoa had lots of time to show off his body, and it clearly paid off: he became Hawaii’s Model of the Year in 1999.

Exercise Regime

Before his Conan role, Momoa never lifted heavy weights. His exercise regimen was running, boxing, surfing and climbing for fun. Momoa. For his diet, Momoa mainly eats lean meat and green vegetables, with some room of course saved for Guinness.

Momoa’s love of guitar led him to start his own collection, which includes a 1959 Gibson Les Paul previously owned by Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. The guitar is a gift that he gave himself for earning the role of Aquaman.

Momoa got the scar in 2008 when a man hit him with a pint glass, resulting in 140 stitches. Momoa suspected the attack was part of a gang initiation for the man who assaulted him. Momoa says it helped him to get more tough-guy roles.

Jason Momoa just broke the internet, with his rendition of the Haka on the blue carpet of his Aquaman Premiere. He stood with his kids, being the cool father that he is, and orchestrated an impressive rendition of the tribal ritual. Standing there casually in his black vest and merman trident. One of Netflix’s original drama series, Mamoa plays the main character. Based in the 1700s, he plays character Declan Harp, who is working in the fur trade. the first episode aired in November 2016 and at the end of last year, the series’ third season was released.
