Just Have Faith

Tunde was from Georgia, and after her divorce had gone through she found herself in dire straits financially. Usually, you hope that after going through a life-changing event like divorce that things will begin to get better, but this was not the case for Tunde. Things continued to spiral out of control, and one day she found herself on the way to work, in the pouring rain, with barely any gas in her car, and only $5 to her name.
Just Have Faith

Since she had been unable to finish her nursing degree, she was working a job as a hospice care worker.

Tunde was an active member of the Cornerstone Church in Athens, Georgia and it would seem like her constant prayers were answered by a fellow member of the congregation. As she did not have enough money to fill up her car on her way to the hospice center that day, the inevitable happened – she ran out of gas.

So, there she was stuck in the pouring rain knowing she needed to get to work but to do that she either had to walk or procure some gas for her car. It seemed like an insurmountable task at the time.

A Helping Hand

Tunde got the helping hand she needed, and it involved placing her trust in a stranger which is not advised but had a positive outcome in this instance. It was 2014 and Christ Wright drove by Tunde as she made her way in the torrential rain to get some gas for her car. He and his family were on their way to church and the image of the sodden woman trudging through the rain stayed with him as he arrived at the church doorstep.

As his family tumbled out of the car and made their way to the church he knew, without a shadow of a doubt what he needed to do.

Chris drove back to where he had seen Tunde, this unknown woman walking away from her gasless car. Tunde did not know where she was going, but she knew she had to make it to work, otherwise, she would have no way of supporting herself. She needed this job. Chris knew the look of someone in need, and while Tunde had fended for herself all her life, she sorely needed the help at this moment.

Chris tried to live his life according to various segments of the Bible. He was a firm believer in treating people as you wish to be treated. Kindness begets kindness. This was a sentiment that was shared by Tunde as well, which is why she loved caring for people and her life’s goal was to be a nurse so she could provide this care in a more official capacity.

Tunde and Chris were both part of the same congregation which provided them with an instant bond.

Once Tunde knew that Chris and she both attended the same church and trust was established, she started to tell him about how difficult things had been for her recently. How every day was a constant struggle, full of fear and very little hope.

Hearing what she had been through, Chris knew he needed to do more than simply giving her a ride to get a jerry can of gas. Tunde also only had $5 for gas which was not going to get her very far.

He also made the snap decision to give her all the money in his wallet, knowing that she needed it more than he did at that moment.

Tunde was beside herself at his generosity, and without them both knowing it, they would meet a few years later when Tunde would be in a position to help him.
