The Stars Of Commercials And How Much They Earn
If you’ve ever wondered how much the Peloton girl makes or the Old Spice Guy, then you have come to the right place. These actors and actresses all have names, and while they may not be starring in Blockbuster films, they are still walking away with a pretty hefty paycheck. After all, they are the ‘face’ of the brand. Keep scrolling to find out who these faces are, and how much they are making. It might just make you want to get into commercial acting.
Peloton
Peloton bikes have quickly become the ‘it’ bike of the year. Not only do these bikes offer a superior spinning experience, but they also provide the owners with access to hours upon hours of unique spin classes, with a range of instructors. In 2019, Monica Ruiz was cast in a Peloton ad campaign called, “The Gift That Gives Back.”
It featured her riding a Peloton bike that her husband had gifted her. The ad itself caused a lot of problems, as feminists were quick to point out that it seemed like it was for the husband’s benefit. He wanted his wife to stay in shape. Due to this, it is believed that Ruiz only received around $89 per hour for her time filming the commercial, which is the actors union rate.
Hotels.com
One of the ways that brands build awareness is through recurring characters that the audience can connect to. Hotels.com decided to create a string of commercials featuring Captain Obvious, played by Brandon Moynihan. Each commercial features Moynihan sharing a tidbit of obvious knowledge to guests.
This campaign has really taken off, and now Captain Obvious is the face of Hotels.com. This has helped Moynihan negotiate a pretty good deal, as he brings home an annual salary of $180,000 per year. Not too shabby for wearing a captain’s costume, and saying a few lines.
Wendy’s
Wendy’s, the popular fast food chain has been around for decades. That also means that it has gone through a lot of different ad campaigns. In the 1980s, the burger brand came up with the slogan, “Where’s the beef?” The slogan was a hit, and actress Clara Peller was the one responsible for saying it.
She was so popular, that Wendy’s decided to keep her on retainer for future commercials at a salary of $500,000. Peller was happy to stay on, but did begin to diversify, and also signed a contract with Prego Pasta. Wendy’s did not want her to be the face of two brands though, and ultimately cancelled her contract with them.
Progressive Insurance
Insurance companies always manage to have some pretty funny gambits in their commercials. For Progressive Insurance, they have a side character to the main one – Flo. Jamie is Flo’s coworker, and he is played by Jim Cashman who has made a career out of writing for Saturday Night Live and Benched.
Not only does he know how to write comedy, but he can also act it out. As one of the stars of the Progressive commercials, Cashman literally rakes in the cash, earning about $500,000 per year as Jamie. That’s a pretty good paycheck for literally a couple minutes of airtime.
