Clean Like a Pro: 30 Money and Time-saving Hacks for a Sparkling Home
Cleaning the house can be a never-ending task. Knowing a few quick and easy tricks can make the process much easier, whether you’re a constant cleaner or a last-minute tidy-upper.
Here are some cheap and easy cleaning hacks that will help you save some time and frustration, along with a lot of wasted money.
Clean Your Oven Door With A Dishwasher Cleaning Tablet
A quick way to clean all the grease and grime accumulated over the years in your oven door is with a dishwasher tablet. All you need for this hack is a dishwasher tablet (or two) and a bowl of warm water.
Make sure whichever brand you use; you buy the pressed powder tablets, not the gel pods. First, make sure you put rubber gloves on to protect your hands from harmful chemicals since dishwasher tablets contain bleach. Dip the tablet in warm water. Hold it long enough to soak up a bit of the water, but not too long, it starts to crumble. Then, simply use the tablet to scrub; no sponge is needed! Lay the tablet flat, and use your palm to move the tablet in circular motions and scrub away the stains. Dip the tablet again if it starts to dry out. Using a damp towel, wipe out the residue.
Use Shaving Cream to Clean Your Shower Glass
It turns out that there are many other uses for shaving cream. Consider this last-minute solution if you’re out of Windex and have company coming over. Shaving cream can be used to get rid of water stains. There’s nothing worse for a glasses-wearer than dealing with blinding fog every time you empty the dishwasher or step in from the cold.
Apply some to the dirty surface and leave it there for fifteen minutes. Wipe it clean with a cloth after the timer goes off. The end effect will be a beautifully clean, water-stain-free shower glass. Another shaving cream use that can do wonders: the buildup of products and oils from your skin can make your jewelry lose its luster over time. Rub a small dap of shaving cream in with your fingers and follow this with a wipe-down from a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Stop Towels From Smelling
To remove the mildew odor, wash the towels in hot water with baking soda and white vinegar. However, baking soda and white vinegar do not mix well, so don’t put both in the washer simultaneously to avoid a messy chemical reaction.
Use half a cup of baking soda instead of detergent to keep things simple. Pour the baking soda into the washing machine in the same way you would the detergent. For those with HE machines, remove the liquid cup from the detergent compartment and replace it with the baking soda, exactly as you would if using a powder detergent.
Put Rice in Your Coffee Grinder
Coffee grinders are complex equipment that collects coffee dust over time. This can grow rotten, and it needs to be cleaned regularly. So how can you get rid of it quickly?
Put dry, uncooked rice (about 1/4 cup) in the grinder and grind into a fine powder. Gently remove the rice powder with a toothbrush. The rice will have absorbed all of the coffee shards. You can also grind other things in your coffee grinder, especially if you are a baker. You can use your coffee grinder to grind wheat. Grinding wheat in a coffee grinder is inexpensive to get freshly ground wheat flour without going to the store as long as you have unground wheat on hand. Grinding your wheat berries home may be more cost-effective than purchasing traditional wheat flour or other flour products from your local grocery store. Aside from being more cost-effective, freshly ground wheat is traditionally more nutritious.
