Your wedding may be the most amazing day of your life, but for some, the stress of planning the big day can be way too hard to handle. So much goes into making sure everything goes to plan. From the food, to the invitations, and let’s not forget about finding the right dress too! Well, this is the story of a New York man who proposed to his beloved bride-to-be and married her all in one night. It was a surprise he had been planning for months, ensuring that she got the perfect wedding for the perfect bride, but without all of the negative stress that comes with the planning… Was this a match made in heaven? Or did he overstep the line?

In love

Danny Rios and his darling girlfriend Nicole were utterly head over heels in love with each other. They had been dating for a number of years now, and marriage was something definitely in the pipeline for them – just when the time was right.

Danny and Nicole were, in some ways, the perfect couple. They supported one another through ups and downs, thick and thin, and they wanted to dedicate their lives to each other forever.

A life-changing condition

Their love was incredibly strong, and their loved ones could see how perfect they were each other. There was only one thing left to do for Danny, and that was to propose. However, Danny had to be cautious of making sure the proposal went smoothly, and that was because of Nicole’s health.

She had been diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes severe pain-inducing symptoms, including skin rashes, swollen joint pain, and extreme prolonged tiredness. This meant Nicole’s health and wellbeing always came first, and Danny was always by her side, caring for her when she most needed him.

A thoughtful gesture

There is no cure for Lupus, and the symptoms of the disease are made worse when the body is put under significant stress. This meant Nicole and boyfriend Danny always had to ensure that their lives were as stress-free as possible.

However, what’s one of the most stressful life events? Well, planning a wedding of course! Danny worried about this deeply. He didn’t want Nicole to suffer while planning their wedding, and so to avoid the inevitable flaring up of her symptoms, he made a plan to cut out all of the demanding and taxing preparations for Nicole. But what was the plan?

Secret planning

He decided to plan a surprise party that could act as both an engagement party and a wedding all in one. First would come the proposal, and then if Nicole agreed, the two would tie the know right there and then in front of all their friends and family.

The couple lived in Smithtown, New York, and their home together had a great backyard for a tent to be erected. Having a party in the backyard was something Nicole always said she wanted to do, whether it was a birthday party or engagement party…But now it was going to be a surprise wedding!

A lot of hard work

Now he had an idea in place, Danny started preparing and planning the big event. He gave himself a whole five months to plan, all with the help of Nicole’s mother for support. Although the venue was in their own backyard, there was still a lot of things to plan – the cake, catering, invitations, and the notorious choosing of the dress.

To make sure the dress fit Nicole on the day, Nicole’s mother, who was the same size as her, came along to the fitting acting as a model. They bought the dress in two sizes and then got the bottom altered. Hopefully, all would fit well!

Groomzilla

Because the wedding was a secret, Danny had to be super sneaky for months. He hid all the wedding-related things in a safe, and there were many occasions in which he had to tell some white lies to stop Nicole from guessing what was going on.

Danny commented saying: “I totally became a bridezilla. I give all women a lot of credit for the amount of hard work that goes into planning a wedding. I had no idea.” Preach!

Taking her away

The last task on the list was to buy the engagement rings and wedding bands, and when this was done, everything was finally in place! In order for Nicole to be away while the party was set up, Danny took her away to Disneyland for the weekend.

They had an amazing trip together, and it only made Danny fall in love with Nicole even more. He couldn’t wait to get home and see her face when she saw what he planned.

A backyard surprise

While Danny and Nicole were away, he had left specific instructions for his parents to prepare everything. As they made their way back home, Danny started to get a little nervous. He wanted this all to go perfectly, and it was now time to give Nicole the surprise of her life.

Their car pulled up outside of their house, and Nicole saw a big tent erected in their backyard. Her heart instantly started pounding with excitement.

Friends and family

As they got out of the car, Nicole’s immediate thought was that Danny had organized a birthday party for her. But her birthday was a week ago? She was both overjoyed and confused. Why were all her friends and family there? The backyard looked beautiful.

Festive string lights had been draped, and candles were lit. Nicole has since commented saying that on the car journey home, she was ready to get in pajamas and snuggle their dog. However, Danny had something rather different planned.

Down on one knee

Danny took her hand and led her into the tent where all of their loved ones were waiting. At this point, Nicole knew something special was about to happen. She couldn’t stop smiling, and everyone took out their phones to film her arrival.

She was so happy to see everyone – all of her loved ones were there to witness this special moment. This was when Danny got down on one knee and said the words every girl wants to here. “Will you marry me?”

New fiance

Nicole felt tears of joy fill her eyes. “Yes!!!” she exclaimed. Yes! Yes Yes! The two embraced and a huge applause erupted from the crowd of friends and family. This was the happiest moment of Nicole’s life.

Her wonderful new fiance had put in so much effort to make this fantastic party happen for her, and what’s more, many of her loved ones who lived across the country had flown in to be there with them!

Another surprise

After a few minutes greeting everyone, Danny asked Nicole if he would join him inside the home for a second. Nicole thought he just wanted a moment alone with her to process what had happened, but yet again, Danny had another surprise in store!

He took her into their bedroom, and held her hand, asking her whether she wanted to get married right now. Nicole was blown away. How was this even possible?

All planned out

Danny kept reassuring Nicole that it was her decision as to whether she wanted to keep it as an engagement party or they could get married right here, right now, tonight. He then told her to turn around where she saw a tux and a wedding dress.

Danny had it all planned out, and Nicole was ecstatic. There was no question in her mind. She wanted to get married straight away with all of her friends and family around her.

Man of honor

Nicole’s special night consisted of surprise after surprise. They just kept coming! Next was when her brother asked Nicole if he could be her man of honor. This meant ever so much to Nicole. As well as being brother and sister, they had always been best friends too, so it was the perfect idea for him to be her man of honor.

Everything was falling into place! Nicole was about to have the wedding of her dreams, without even having to plan a thing.

Ordained

The next surprise was who was going to marry Nicole and Danny. The original plan was for a family friend who was a deacon to marry them, but unfortunately, he was poorly in hospital. However, the backup plan was for Danny’s dad to perform the ceremony.

Thankfully for Danny, his dad accepted the offer and agreed to do it. Just days before it was planned to go ahead, he got ordained on the internet. Crisis avoided!

A special night

While Nicole slipped into her wedding dress and her cousins helped with her hair and makeup, Danny’s dad returned to the party to announce the change of events. Because only a handful knew about the potential going ahead of the wedding, when he announced that the party would now turn into a wedding, the guests gave a massive round of applause.

It was a surprise to them just as much as it was for Nicole.

Tying the knot

Nicole looked beautiful in her gorgeous white gown that ended up fitting perfectly, and Danny looked super smart in his tuxedo suit. The only thing left to do was for the ceremony to take place. This was it.

The moment Danny had been planning for months. Nicole’s dad walked her down the aisle, and their family and friends looked on to witness this special moment. It was a very intimate ceremony that meant so much to the bride and groom.

Husband and wife

As the pair stood up at the end of the aisle, they held each other’s hands and gazed into one another’s eyes. Vows were exchanged, and rings were slipped onto fingers. Then the big finale…They were finally pronounced husband and wife. It was official.

After the confetti was thrown, the party started to get well underway! It was time to celebrate as newlyweds in style with all of their friends and family. Nicole forgot all about getting into her pajamas with her dog.

A party to remember

While a band played some of their favorite songs, Nicole and Danny made sure they did all of the usual wedding ceremony things. They cut the cake for good luck, Nicole threw the bouquet, and most importantly, the couple had their first dance together to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ as husband and wife.

Nicole has since commented saying she can’t believe how swimmingly well everything went. There were no hiccups! How could he have done such an amazing job at planning their dream wedding?

Happy bride

Nicole wrote a blog post about everything that happened on her big day, speaking on how it was the best night of her life. She wrote: “At one point I was sitting in my lounge with my godson, his sister, and my brother, and I thought ‘this is amazing. I’m in my wedding dress chilling out with all my loved ones in my home.”

A backyard home wedding was something Nicole never really thought about, but now it was happening she thought it was the best idea ever.

Happy guests

As midnight arrived, Nicole’s energy started to crash. The adrenaline of the surprise wore off, and after saying goodbye to her guests, Nicole was carried off to bed by Danny. She fell asleep straight away, with a beaming smile on her face, and a warm feeling in her heart.

After kissing her goodnight, Danny returned downstairs to their guests where they played games until around 2 am. This wedding had taken a long time to organize, but every single second now felt totally worth it.

Making a difference

Nicole and Danny’s wedding story has since gone viral, with most people commenting on how wonderfully heartwarming Danny’s thoughtful planning was. One thing that Nicole was particularly pleased with is how the attention of the story could now hopefully drive awareness of lupus too.

Danny commented on the matter saying “Lupus is a crummy disease, but you can still be happy. It is out there. Do not stop looking.” It seems as though we all need a Danny in our lives.

Happily ever after

After five laborious months of Danny planning their wedding, the happy couple could now begin their life together one. Nicole commented on Danny’s good job of organizing, saying: “It’s exactly what I would have wanted, and more.

I would not have done it better myself. It was the perfect way to marry him.” Newlyweds Nicole and Danny really do prove that pure love is about commitment and compassion, something we can all learn from.
