How Rumer Willis Grew Up In 'Unwanted' Spotlight

Rumer Willis became a celebrity from birth as she was born to two famous parents. But in this case, being in the spotlight wasn’t always necessarily a good thing. So, let’s take a look back at Rumer’s eventful life.

One of the most famous relationships that have ever graced Hollywood’s history is that of actress Demi Moore and actor Bruce Willis. Even though the couple is no longer an item, they have remained friends and share a daughter, Rumer Willis, together. From the beginning of her life she has had all eyes on her, but how has she coped?

Having famous parents almost automatically puts the child into the spotlight, and as we know, the media can be just as cruel as they are kind. Rumer’s life has been heavily documented, including those details she would of probably much rather of kept out of the public eye.

Rumer has outwardly spoken about how she has suffered at the hands of bullies and how that has affected her confidence and more recently, she has been embroiled in rumors regarding curcumin to the critics and dabbling in plastic surgery. When talking about where her body issues stem from, she openly discussed her time at school.

We can all remember how challenging school was and at times, we loved it as much as we hated it. Already being a name that people knew, due to her parent’s celebratory status, Rumer said that she was a target for bullies with people making unkind remarks about her looks.

As her mother is the ultra-famous Demi Moore, she would often be compared to her. When discussing her life in the public eye, she noted how stressful it is to be continuously followed around by paps as well as having to attend movie premieres. As she became an adult, she understood more that people’s opinions of her didn’t matter, although it never made them easy to hear to read. Learning a lot from those times she felt bullied, she has now grown to a place where she can openly and confidently speak about how she felt.

With all of the constant pressures that the celebrity world places on people, it is clear to see that life as an A-lister isn’t always the most idyllic way to live. Rumer admitted that other people’s comments on her began to make quite a drastic effect on her, and she began to believe that if she was skinnier or perhaps had plastic surgery, that she would be more excepted. But then the press went for her younger sister.

As her younger sister Tallulah began to grow up in the spotlight, she began to feel the pressure of being born to two Hollywood actors, and it was, in fact, her that made Rumer realize she needed to rise above the negativity. Tallulah had a very hard time adjusting to life as it was and has since spoken out about her sobriety.

With Tallulah taking control and turning her life around, this massively inspired Rumer and her sister to join forces and affect themselves as they were. And why not? It is a shame to see how much people’s unnecessary comments can affect people. And Rumer had something to say about it all.

With a new-found strength and perspective, Rumer said, “Here are my flaws, and it’s okay. I’m still me.” For her, saying this out loud and to the public was a huge turn in her life, her self confidence shot through the roof and although it wouldn’t stop people from giving out unwanted comments, she had learned not to listen.

Rumer began to speak out about the negative press, and as well as talking about her looks, there was also news spreading about her that she was dealing with some inner demons. When she was asked to address all the rumors, she came out and simply said, “In our culture, people like to assume things”.

New Realtionship

Following the breakdown of her marriage to Rumer father, Bruce Willis. It wasn’t long before she was dating a much younger A-lister, Ashton Kutcher. Although there wasn’t much difference in age between Rumer and Ashton, she accepted the relationship and saw that it made them both happy. But it didn’t last long.

Trouble With Mum

Rumer and her younger siblings loved and treated Ashton as a father, and he also cared for them as his own children, but it was then in 2011, that Demi and Ashton announced they were getting a divorce and it was here that trouble began to brew between Rumer and her mother.

He Was Her Friend

In the beginning, Demi’s daughters supported her decision, as ultimately, they just wanted to see her happy. After 8 years, she and Ashton got a divorce but then things got very rocky. It came out in the press that Demi was now dating one of Rumer’s friends, and it is safe to say, that didn’t go down very well at all. But what would Rumer do?

Following her mother’s recent decisions, Rumer and her sister stood their ground and went up against Demi as they wanted to show her that they felt she wasn’t acting accordingly, with one source saying, “Rumer is really the one making the decision to do this while Demi (is) off her rocker again.” Their mother also put a ban on the girls that they were not happy about, and everyone speculated whether this was due to the fact that Rumer came out publically and admitted she had once had a crush on Ashton.

Despite Ashton being a part of their lives for 8 years, following the split, Demi actually banned the girls from talking to him and this is something they absolutely did not accept. Ashton even received a sweet nickname from Moore’s children, as they called him “MOD” which stood for “my other dad” – how sweet.

Amidst all the drama that was surrounding her mother at the time, this of course meant that once again, the media was back on Rumer case. She was now a young woman and she was ready to experiment with her look, but the press claimed she was changing a lot more than just her hair color and style. What did she do to herself?

Various magazines began writing that Rumer had started to have plastic surgery – and really so what if she was. When asked about the recent gossip surrounding her, Rumer commented, “If I choose to do something to myself, it’s because I’ve thought about it. And if it’s going to make me feel better, I won’t be ashamed of the choices that I make.”

Her parents, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis must have found it hard to see their daughter go through all of the criticism she received, and especially because it was down to their career choice. In 2013, Rumer celebrated her 25th birthday and went for a much softer look, with minimal makeup and longer hair. It was during this year that she became a celebrity in her own right when she appeared in the movie, The Odd Way Home and had a role on TV shows, Pretty Little Liars and Hawaii Five-O.

Mature at 30

Now at 30 years old, she seems to of found her style and has gone back to longer darker hair with a more elegant way of dressing. This summer, she attended her friend’s wedding with a mystery man and looked absolutely stunning and it also seems that the press has taken a step back, and is allowing her the space she always wanted.
