A Stranger Noticed An Abandoned Dog By A Grave- Uncovering A Local Mystery

Distressing Sight

On a Fall day in 2015, Gill Brighton was driving down a country road, by a graveyard, when she noticed a dog all on its on just sat by a grave. She noticed,  that the white shepherd mix looked starving and thin.

Decided To Do Something

Gill felt an urge to help the poor pooch, and encouraged the animal to come closer with some of her left over lunch.  Yet the dog seemed fixated on this grave and did not want to leave it. When the dog approached closer to Gill, she suddenly realized something remarkable.

An Interesting Revelation

Gill could tell that the dog had recently given birth, as she was clearly producing milk. However, her Gill then wondered where her babies could be.  Upon closer inspection, Gill also noticed that the dog was full of ticks and this upset her greatly.

What To Do Now?

Gill had no idea how long the dog had been neglected for, but she could tell that it was definitely in need of some looking after, and she made it her mission to do so. The dog was very nervous and Gill was n0t totally sure why, but she wanted to help as much as she could.

Uncertain Fate

She couldn’t leave her now, so, the dog lover decided that she would do everything necessary in order to get this dog fighting fit again. She could not shake the feeling in her gut that she needed to look for these babies.

The Investigation Begins

Gill acted fast, she left the dog and raced home to get some medicine for the ticks and some more food. She feared that the dog would not be there by the time she got back, so she had to hurry. Luckily the pooch was still there, so Gill decided on her next plan of action.

The Search For Puppies Commences

She went to a neighboring house and knocked on the door to see if they had any answers for her. The homeowner, Carl, then answered, and Gill asked him about her new dog companion.

Pieces Of The Puzzle Starting To Come Together

Gill then in that moment, learnt of the dog’s heartbreaking story. Carl explained, that her owner had died about month before – just before the pet was due to give birth. And, ever since this time, the loyal and sad dog had visited a pile of blue roses on her human’s grave every day.

Heartbroken

“She spent her days at her grave, going back and forth caring for her puppies,” Gill wrote on her Facebook when she shared the sad tale. “No one knew where the babies were, but [Carl] directed me to the home of the deceased companion in search of her nephew who had apparently been feeding her when able.”

Search Is Underway

Gill took matters into her own hands and decided to search for the nephew of the dog’s late owner. She took directions from Carl and found the house a mile down the road. Unfortunately, though, no-one answered the door. What should she do now, should she wait?

Back To The Drawing Board

Gill then went back to Carl to see if he would leave a message. However, he kindly insisted that he would drive around the neighborhood with her to look for this nephew. So,  she pulled up outside the dog’s former home yet again, but this time with Carl.

A More Aggressive Stance

Carl told her to be some what aggressive in order to get the nephew’s attention, so she tooted her horn – and just like that, the nephew slowly appeared. They were no closer in their investigation, because he claimed that he had no idea where the dog’s puppies were.

Still Seemingly A Dead End

As Gill drove Carl home feeling deflated, she was sad that he had not given her any concrete clues. On the way back however, Gill suddenly spotted the dog leaving the grave and traveling somewhere. They both looked at each other and decided to follow her.

Wild Chase Continues

Alice explained:“She cut through the pasture to get away from the car, not realizing it was us. “While driving Carl home, he called out, ‘There she is now.’ About 400 yards in front of us, she trotted toward us, down the dirt road toward her home,” She carried on: We pulled out, back down the road, stopping periodically so as not to concern the mother.”

Where Were They Hiding?

In a touching moment that she later recalled on Facebook, Gill looked at Carl and asked him to join her in a prayer. “And so, two strangers, far removed in every way, closed our eyes together and asked for God to lead us to help this family in honor of Ms. Carey, who had passed”.

Getting warmer on the trail

Alice and Carl watched as Mama walk towards an old shed, yet hesitated for some time.  She had no idea that she was being watched. After she waited to see if the coast was clear, she then made Gill and Carl gasp.

Getting Hotter

As she crawled into a hole under the shed, soon 3 little adorable puppies crawled out. The mystery had finally been solved! Gill cried happy tears, and hugged Carl tight.

At Last!

Gill had even checked this shed for the puppies earlier but did not find anything. “She had taught her babies well,” she said on Facebook. “But once mom was home, three little girls came out of the woodworks, all cries of hunger and pleasure.” She was just so ecstatic.

What To Do With Them?

Gill could finally bring the dogs to safety. So, she took the mom and her puppies into her care. But she knew that she could not keep them all, and wanted to figure out the best outcome for them so that they can have the best chance of growing up happy.

Another Arrival To Come

Alice and Carl were elated, but they had no idea they were in for one more surprise. All of a sudden from around the corner, the babies’ dad came trotting to greet them. Wow this moment just got even more special.

An Unexpected Twist In The Tale

They never would have believed that this would have happened. But a sadness loomed over them, how could they possibly split them all up now when they had just reunited? What would they do now?

Had To Name Them

Alice proceeded to rescue Mama Angel (her new name for her), Charlie, (the dad) and their three little beautiful babies, whom she named Jaclyn, Kate, and Farrah. This amazing little family could all be together finally, in a proper home.

What Now?

What would she do now though? She couldn’t possibly keep all of the babies and both dogs, even though she really wanted to. Now she would have to find them somewhere to live. This was a big responsibility, and she had to make sure it was somewhere safe and happy.

Carl Shakes His Head

Carl wanted to, but could not take the puppies. He set about to try and find a loving home for them also, but it proved to be quiet a challenge. They didn’t want to give them to a shelter.

Heroic Act

Gill managed to find the dogs loving homes with other dogs to play with. She makes sure to visit them regularly. After sharing her story on her Facebook page, it went viral instantly. People were amazed at her kind and loving act in helping to save the heart broken mother and her babies. We hope more people will follow in her footsteps.
